Jadi sekarang tinggal Annapurna di Nepal, good luck Kang Ed!

Viesturs, dikenal sebagai pendaki dunia paling kuat, bilang soal pendakiannya "gile kayanya ini salah satu pendakian gw yg paling berat .. termasuk tantangan fisiknya" dia juga bilang "apalagi tujuh jam terakhir .. lo bayangin aja selama itu cuma gundukan salju dalem banget .. mana ga stabil lagi". Kang Ed udah di Pakistan sebulan lebih bikinin pos & high camp di ketinggian (15800ft/4816m, 19600ft/5974m, 22350ft-6812m) dan high camp 4 sekitar 24000ft-7315m sebelum berjunag keras buat muncak. Detail ekspedisinya sendiri dibikin low profile mengingat keamanan di Pakistan sekitar Nanga Parbat.

Kang Ed yg baru ultah ke 44 minggu lalu senang dan puas buanget soalnya udah dua taun dia impi2 sejak kesana pertama kalinya taun 2001.

Seattle mountain climber Ed Viesturs today became the first American to stand on top of 13 of the world's 14 highest mountains. Viesturs reported by satellite phone that he and climbing partner Jean Christophe LaFaille successfully sumitted Nanga Parbat and stood on the 26,658 foot peak in clouds and mist at 11am Pakistan time after a final grueling seven hour climb from high camp four. Viesturs climbed Nanga Parbat, the world's ninth highest mountain, without the use of supplemental oxygen on his Endeavor 8000 quest to be the first American to have climbed all 14 of the highest mountains on earth. Only Annapurna, in Nepal, is left on Viesturs list of 8,000 meter peaks yet to climb.

Viesturs, long considered one of the world's strongest climbers, reported that the climb was "one of the most difficult and physically challenging of my career" and compared the final 7 hour summit push to "climbing a sand dune of deep and unstable powdery snow". Viesturs has been in Pakistan trekking into and climbing Nanga Parbat for more than a month having established a base camp and high camps at 15,800, 19,600 and 22,350 feet along with a higher camp four at around 24,000 feet from which the summit attempt was mounted. Normally high profile, details of Viesturs 2003 expedition had been kept quite because of security concerns in the areas of Pakistan surrounding Nanga Parbat.

Viesturs who just turned 44 years old on Sunday said he was "Overjoyed and extremely satisfied" at having climbed the mountain that has been "On my mind for two years" since his first attempt to climb Nanga Parbat in 2001.
